Hospital STP water is 15 to 20 times more toxic than residential waste

Hospitals use heavy-duty disinfectants (like sodium hypochlorite (chlorine), phenols, and quaternary ammonium compounds) for floor cleaning and sanitisation. Hospital STP also deals with wastewater from continuous handwashing stations, surgical scrubbing, equipment sterilisation, and the washing of contaminated bed linens, surgical gowns, and patient showers. The STP water at times contains heavy metals (mercury, silver), X-ray contrast media, high concentrations of antibiotics, chemotherapy drugs, and endocrine disruptors.


These toxicants have a strong antimicrobial effect, killing healthy MLVSS. The BOD-to-COD ratio is often very low (<0.3), making organic breakdown difficult. All of this puts Hospital STPs under extreme stress.

  • Why is Evobac-STP recommended for Hospital STP?
    General bacteria work in normal sewage but struggle in hospital wastewater. Evobac-STP was developed specifically for biologically stressful environments where disinfectants, pharmaceuticals, and fluctuating toxicity can affect microbial activity. Hence, Evobac-STP is highly recommended for Hospitals, Pharma units, and food manufacturing facilities that have high levels of antimicrobial, bacteriostatic, bacteriocidal compounds, or other toxic substances in the water.

  • Will Evobac-STP survive hospital wastewater?
    Yes. Evobac-STP contains strong bacterial cultures resistant to toxicants and can easily survive in the stressful environment of Hospital STPs. These bacteria are highly tolerant to shock loads.

  • Our STP has high levels of Fats, oil and detergents?
    No problem at all. Oil and detergent is food for these microbes. It can handle all of that and more. These are strong vigorous bacteria, that can degrade a wide range of organic matter. 

  • Will it work in SBR, MBBR, or ASP?
    Yes. Evobac-STP can be used in all types of aerobic biological treatment systems, including SBR, MBBR, ASP, and similar STP processes.

  • Does it help reduce ammonia and TN?
    Yes, Evobac significantly reduces Total Nitrogen in STP water. It has both Aerobic and facultative (anoxic) microbes. These bacteria form flocs that provide oxygenic (outer floc layer) and anoxic zones (inner floc layer) within the floc. This zoning inside flocs accelerates effective nitrogen removal.

  • Can it reduce odours and foaming?
    Bacteria in Evobac-STP rapidly break down detergents, long polymers, and toxic compounds. They also lead to the complete digestion of aromatic organic compounds, leaving behind no volatile substances. As a result, they reduce foaming and bad odours within 2 days of application.

  • Do we need to stop the STP while dosing the bacteria?
    No. Evobac-STP is added directly into an operating biological treatment system without interrupting normal plant operation. 

  • Is Evobac-STP safe to use?
    Evobac-STP is completely safe to use. It contains non-pathogenic bacteria and non-GMO microbes. These are GRAS status microbes, and the product is export-compliant. The product is exported to several countries, including European countries, and our standards of product quality are the same globally.
